Operations Technology Person (OTP) 2 Practice Test

When pairing a PED with a register or kiosk, there is a short window in which you must enter the pairing code. This time limit is built into the pairing process to ensure the session is intentional and tied to the current user. The code is shown on one device and must be typed into the PED within a limited period so that only someone who is actively attempting to pair can complete the connection.

Two minutes strikes a practical balance. It gives enough time to read and type the code and handle minor delays without staying open too long, which could create security risk if someone else strolls up with the code. Shorter windows like 30 seconds or 1 minute can be too tight in busy environments, while a longer window like 5 minutes increases the chance that an old or intercepted code could be misused. So, entering the code within two minutes is the recommended, secure cadence for completing the pairing.
